Local LibDems call on Weston's MP to stand up for decency in public life
Following yesterday's violent scenes in Westminster, LibDem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Weston and the Villages, Cllr Patrick Keating, has today called on Weston's Tory MP to take a stand for decency in public life and to call on the Prime Minster to withdraw his false remarks about the leader of the opposition.
Cllr Keating said:
Truth and honesty matters in public life.
Members of Parliament must stand up for these principles, even in the face of pressure from their own government.
This is why I have written to Weston's MP John Penrose MP today to ask him to join with some of his Conservative colleagues to call on the Prime Minister to withdraw his false remarks about the record of Sir Keir Starmer as Director of Public Prosecutions.
I have also asked him to clarify the remarks made by the Business Secretary that "fraud is not something that people experience in their daily lives," when police statistics show this statement has no basis in reality.
This Government is following the Trump playbook, which can only lead to distaster. We need principled MPs from across all parties to stand and be counted in favour of truth, decency and honesty.
