Local businessperson to fight Town Council by-election for LibDems

A by-election will take place in December for a vacant seat on Weston-super-Mare Town Council in Weston Central Ward and the Liberal Democrats have announced that local businessperson Clare Morris will contest the seat representing the party.

The by-election has been caused by the resignation of Town Councillor Ella Sayce, who has moved out of Weston. As a result of an election being requested by residents, a by-election is due to take place on Thursday 16 December.

Clare Morris lives locally in Weston and is well-known as the owner of local café and zero waste shop Good & Proper Zero on Big Lamp Corner. Clare has been an active campaigner in the town centre for many years, working with the Business Improvement District, championing the arts and climate action and as a strong voice for the business community.

Clare said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to seek election to Weston Town Council and look forward to meeting more friends and neighbours over the next few weeks. Weston Town Council has done a good job supporting our community and I want to do my bit to continue to improve Weston and make a difference.

"Lib Dem councillors Mike Bell and Robert Payne have a strong reputation for getting things done. I look forward to joining the team if I am fortunate enough to be elected next month."

Weston Central Ward has three Weston Town Councillors representing it and the other two, who are not affected by the by-election, are Liberal Democrats Mike Bell and Robert Payne, who also represent the ward on North Somerset Council.
