LibDem Councillors Lobby Government and ask N Somerset Businesses for Help with PPE

North Somerset Council is appealing to the Government for additional personal protective equipment (PPE), and to local businesses for any spare PPE, so it can be used by the authority's care workers.

Although the council's care teams currently have sufficient PPE, stocks nationally are running low, and priority is being given to NHS staff.

Cllr Mike Bell, Executive Member for Health and Social Care at North Somerset has called on the Secretary of State, for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP to improve protection for those workers on the front line of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Bell said: "I urge the government to do more and keep the stocks coming. A sustained supply of PPE is vital in the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19."

"Understandably the NHS efforts to battle this disease occupy many of our news headlines, but we must not forget the role of our care homes and home care providers. They too are working incredibly hard and deserve our recognition and respect.

"I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who is working so hard to deliver care in such challenging circumstances."

Since the Pandemic was first announced, local businesses have also been helping the council's appeal for urgently needed PPE for care workers.

"We've had an excellent response and I would like to thank all those businesses who have come forward and provided items," said Cllr Bell. "Please keep them coming and help save lives."
