Hundreds of local residents have marched through Weston to show their support for the campaign to protect emergency services at Weston Hospital.

Weston's Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit has been closed overnight since the summer as health bosses struggle to recruit staff and balance the books.

Local Lib Dem councillors Mike Bell and Robert Payne joined representatives of other parties at the protest.

Speaking at a rally at the end of the march, Councillor Mike Bell said: "The NHS is too important for party politics to get in the way. We need to stand united and send a clear message that we want our local health services protected. Weston is a growing town and we desperately need additional health services, not fewer."
