Decision to close Weston's A&E doesn't make sense

1 Oct 2019

The Liberal Democrats have expressed dissapointment about the outcome of today's meeting on the future of Weston Hospital.

Cllr Mike Bell, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on North Somerset Council, said:

" I'm very disappointed that NHS managers have voted through the permanent overnight closure of Weston A&E this afternoon. There is a lot to support in their plans for the future of our Hospital, but there will be no going back on overnight closure following this decision. They have pressed ahead with this despite the fact that the planned merger of Weston and Bristol Hospital Trusts offers the chance to recruit and retain more staff and address safety concerns. It doesn't make sense - unless your objective is to simply cut costs."
