Stop £10 million cut to local school funding

In North Somerset, we have some of the best schools in the country - but the Tory Government is putting them at risk with the biggest cuts in a generation. 98% of schools face a real terms cut in funding, with £10 million due to be taken from local schools by 2020. Only a vote for Mike Bell and the Lib Dems tells the Government to give additional money to our schools and academies.

Unless the Conservative Government allocates additional money, North Somerset's schools and academies will lose huge amounts in funding over the next few years - rising to £3 billion a year in real terms by 2020. Head teachers are already speaking of the impossible job they have to balance the books and offer the best education for all children. Yet there is worse to come.

Under the Government's new funding formula it is estimated that 98% of schools could lose out. Mike Bell, who is running in Weston, Worle and the villages to be our next MP says: "These cuts will hurt us all. They will result in bigger class sizes, school staff losing their jobs and cuts to important extra-curricular activities and the resources available to support our children and young people."

According to official figures, North Somerset's schools will be £10,308,906 worse off by 2020. This includes Tory plans to reallocate school budgets according to a new national funding formula, and not increasing funding per pupil in line with inflation.

The Conservative 2015 manifesto stated 'Under a future Conservative Government, the amount of money following your child into school will be protected'. However, in North Somerset the average funding per pupil will fall by £391 - so much for Government promises!

Only a vote for Mike Bell and the Lib Dems tells the Government to give additional money to our schools and academies.
